Bringing Experience and Expertise to the Stage
IATSE is the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employes, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts
Because Local 23 has had a long history in Providence’s Theatrical venues, our members have worked with and supported some of the greatest names in the entrainment industry, and the biggest Broadway tours such as The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, and many more.
Currently IATSE 23 members support shows in Providence at the Providence Performing Arts Center, The Dunkin Donuts Center, The Veterans Memorial Auditorium, The RI Convention Center. And we don’t just work in theaters— we also support business conferences, as well as live concerts in arenas and venues throughout Rhode Island, such as the Ryan Center at URI in South Kingstown, and the Twin River Casino in Lincoln RI.
Our members are highly qualified and skilled individuals, dedicated to making your event a huge success. We take pride in our history of providing first-rate technical and logistical support, even as technology evolves. Lighting and sound systems have become more complex, scenic shops are using new materials to build sets and displays, and costumes are now designed for lightning quick changes. IATSE 23 members have the diversity of knowledge and technical skills to stay ahead of those changes.
So whether your next event is a private corporate function, fundraiser, theatrical show, tradeshow or concert, the Stage employees of IATSE Local 23 can provide all of the expertise you need to make your event a rousing success.

We are not a company
IATSE Local 23 is simply an organization of industry professionals with common goals. IATSE Local 23 does not make a profit, and your payroll does not get split-up within the organization. As employees, we cover our own operating costs. There are no middlemen. You do not pay a percentage to a labor broker. The benefit percentages go directly to the employees, and because they appreciate the work environment, we see higher productivity.
Payroll
If your company is not set up to take care of payroll, IATSE Local 23 has a working relationship with a payroll services company that can take care of your payroll and worker’s compensation needs.
Where we work
Local 23 provides highly skilled rigging, carpentry, lighting, audio, and production personnel to major venues, producers, and promoters throughout the Providence Metro area and all of Rhode Island.
Who have we worked with
We take great pride in our long-term partnerships with groups such as Festival Ballet Providence, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic. We also have a long relationship with SMG, operators of the Dunkin Donuts Center and the RI Convention Center, and PFM, operators of Veterans Memorial Auditorium and the Providence Performing Arts Center.
You get what you pay for
Some employers see the hourly rate for each position, plus the benefits cost in our contracts and feel that their show cannot incur these costs. However, the experience that IATSE Local 23 crews bring to your show means that you have fewer crew members who get the work done in less time. Plus, you won’t see the damage to your equipment that any local non-union crew can bring. You will quickly find that in the end, IATSE Local 23 will produce your show for a lower cost than with non-union personnel. Because we are career professionals we enjoy our work, appreciate our co-workers, are highly efficient with our time, and ensure a safe workplace. That’s who we are.
